“Asking for help isn’t giving up,” said the horse, “It’s refusing to give up.”

Christmas Greetings 2020

We know that the festive season is a challenging time for those with eating disorders and their families, but this year with the pandemic, it is even more so. You will get through this by taking a little step at a time, and being kind to yourself. Everyone at NEEDS(Scotland) wishes our group members and their loved ones the best Christmas they can have, and hopefully in the New Year we can look to the longer days and Spring bulbs. Although we cannot hold our usual group meetings, we can direct you to telephone and or online support through the national eating disorders charity Beat at www.beateatingdisorders.org

Merry Christmas, best wishes for a happy and healthy New Year and remember,

“You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” Unknown

“I can’t see a way through, said the boy,

“Can you see the next step?”

“Yes.”

“Just take that.” said the horse.

“What else do you think?” said the boy.

“I think you are doing better than you think.”said the horse.

“Asking for help isn’t giving up,” said the horse, “It’s refusing to give up.”

Coping with Christmas

What does Christmas mean to you? For most of us, it is many things, Friends and families coming together, works nights out, buying gifts for our nearest and dearest, writing out Christmas cards…I could go on!

For those struggling with an eating disorder, and their carers, it can instigate sheer panic. It becomes all about massive amounts of food, and more food, taking away any enjoyment, and adding huge anxieties. Carers become anxious about their loved ones being anxious and the combined anxieties can wind up stress levels.

Over the years NEEDS(Scotland) have built up a bank of helpful strategies from group members which can help you cope with this time of year. We are always looking for more ideas, so if you feel you can add to what we have, email our administrator via our contact formand we will add them to our leaflet.

Our December meeting dates are NEEDS(Aberdeen) Monday 4th December at 7.30pm, and NEEDS2 Bridging the Gap in Dundee  on Wednesday 13th December at 7pm.

Everyone at NEEDS(Scotland) wishes you all a very Merry Christmas and best wishes for 2018.

Merry Christmas

Christmas is coming!

Christmas and all its associated parties can be quite difficult for our group members who may find these situations really scary. We have put together some suggestions in this leaflet to help support you through the season.

Please remember, that Christmas is be about the people too, especially those close to you, and perhaps those who you don’t see very often, and perhaps your own family traditions, the present giving and receiving, the games, or not as the case may be! A lovely walk in the morning or afternoon can also be a time to have some time to yourself, or enjoy with family, friends or a pet.

Whatever you choose to do, we hope you can relax and enjoy the season in whichever way you choose. Merry Christmas everyone!
