Talking to a GP

“I feel very scared but think I’m ready to talk to my GP…what will happen?”

Your GP will probably want to check your weight and height to find out what your BMI is (BMI means Body Mass Index, the relationship between height and weight).

Good questions s/he may ask might include -

Are you unhappy about how you look?

Would you like to be thinner than you are?

Are you dieting?

Do you feel you have lost control of your eating?

Do you think you might be suffering from an eating disorder?

Try to be as open and honest as possible about how you feel. If s/he thinks you might have an eating disorder, s/he might refer you to an eating disorders specialist. Our what happens after diagnosis section explains what happens after diagnosis.
