What happens at a meeting?

At NEEDS Aberdeen group meetings, sufferers and their carers meet regularly to discuss items of interest and to offer support in any way possible.

People who attend often find they share many common experiences which can be discussed in complete confidence with others in similar situations. Members help to support each other through difficult times and issues. Sufferers, relatives, friends are all welcome to come to a meeting.  You do not have to be referred by your GP, and many people have found the meetings of great support while waiting for treatment to begin.

The meetings start at 7.30 pm, when all members, old and new, are welcomed to the Group.   First of all, we have an ice-breaker, a discussion of an item of mutual interest. After this, sufferers and carers form separate groups, each with a facilitator.

Group facilitators for the sufferers’ group have had personal experience of an eating disorder, while the facilitators for the carers’ groups have experience of living with a family member who suffers from an eating disorder.

From time to time, the group invites speakers and holds workshops. We'd be delighted to hear your suggestions for speakers and/or topics - just drop Anthea an email. It's your group!

Our meetings are in the EDS Group Room, on the ground floor.  If you're new to the Service, you can find us by: facing the main Clerkseat entrance, and looking 'north-west': you'll see a path which takes you past the smoking shelter and into an open area.  Head for the door diagonally opposite - once inside, turn left along the long corridor till you come to the Group Room. For any further queries, phone Anthea on 01224 557672 (Mondays 11.30-3.00, Tuesday 11.30 - 3.30 for a 'human' response!) or email Anthea.Robertson@nhs.net.

Pam, one of our facilitators, offers an optional prayer time from 6.30 - 6.55.  This is a Christian focus for those who find this helpful, although NEEDS itself is a neutral organisation, and not aligned to any faith or religion.
